State of the River Summit
The Local Challenges of Sea Level Rise and Climate Change


1-5 p.m. in the Auditorium at Calvert Marine Museum

The local challenges of climate change in the Chesapeake Bay region are rising to meet us, ready or not. Learn about the implications of rising temperatures, rising water, subsiding land mass, stronger storm events, and other predicted changes in the environment, both within our lifetime and into the future.

This year’s festival will take place on October 10th and 11th. The festival runs from 10am-5pm and includes the "Green Village" which features scores of groups that celebrate the river in a wide vairety of ways, children’s activities including pony rides (for a fee), an arts and crafts show and food court, musical performances, an open house at the Calvert Marine Museum,and a Parade at 2:00 on Sunday. Free harbor cruises will be offered on board 2 historic vessels: the 110 year old bugeye, Wm. B. Tennison, the sailing skipjack the Nathan of Dorchester.

New in 2009
Taste the Bounty of the Patuxent in the Corbin Pavilion with local wineries, local produce, and other goodies.

Admission to the event is free; financial support is given by Calvert County Government, and monies brought in by the food court and craft show booth fees. Excess funds are returned to the community in the form of grants.

2008 PRAD Grant recipients were the Calvert County Master Gardeners, the Southern Maryland Oyster Cultivaion Society, Historic Sotterley, Inc., Morgan State University Estuarine Research Center, and the Patuxent River Sail and Power Squadron. All monies received will help benefit the health of the Patuxent River.
